What to do about my 7 month old’s sleep schedule?

infant sleep
rooney asked:

Wakes up 6:00am
naps 3 hours throughout the day and bedtime is 6:45-7:00.

The problem is I think she thinks of it as a nap and wakes up around 7:45 crying and I can’t do anything to have her fall back asleep but let her cry it out (which I hate to do).

I would put her to bed later but she gets overtired and it is even more difficult. Plus, the last two hours she is sooo fussy and cranky and sleepy I feel like I can’t hold off bedtime any more.

What should I do? What’s your infant’s sleep (preferably around 7 months old) schedule like?
BTW, the first night (3 days ago) she cried it out for 3 hours on and off because I kept going in there and picking her up and bringing her out of the room and letting her hang out for a few minutes. So I stopped doing that and now she cries it out for a total of 10 minutes or so, with me visiting every 5 minutes.
Can’t do too much routine stuff, my husband works late most nights and I have a very very rambunctious 3 yr old who needs tending to during the baby’s bedtime.

Your baby might have acid reflux. Mine both had it and took something for it. They would only lay down for a few hours at a time and start crying. If I held them they would go back to sleep. Might not be the answer but check with your Dr. It is worth asking about!

I have a 9 month old son so two months ago his schedule was pretty similar – up at 7, nap at 8:30 or 9 lasting 1 1/2 to 2 hours, nap at 1 for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, bedtime routine starts at 7, down for the night by 7:45. Do you have a solid bedtime routine? We give him a bath, put on lotion and jammies, have a bottle, read a story, sing a song, lay him down and he goes straight to sleep. For naps it’s just a shortened version of that – read a story, sing a song, down to sleep. I am a firm believer in routine!!! Kids do so much better when they know what to expect!

I definitely wouldn’t put her to sleep any later – an early bedtime is best! Just be consistent and she will learn that bedtime means sleeping all night :) Best of luck!
